EUROCUP FORMAT

GENERAL

  1. The host federation should declare the format of the games in the official prospectus.
  2. The Tournament Secretary must inform the Chief Referee and all participants about the time given for each match, format of the team event, number of rounds for the swiss system. etc before the start of each event.
  3. A board must be provided where individual match scores must be clearly written up by the tournament secretary. A time limit must be given for players to check these scores. If after the given time no mistakes are found the TS can advise the Referee to start the next round and no further corrections can be made. This applies to all events.
  4. The Tournament Secretary must keep print-outs of all round rankings and scores in the eventuality of a computer breakdown
  5. It is the players' responsibility to fill in the score cards correctly and to check the scores on the score board.
  6. Protests must be brought to the Chief Referee in writing within no more than 30 minutes with an accompanying fee of Euro10 and the protest will then be decided on by members of the ECC BOM together with the Chief Referee.
  7. Where there is no ECC Law, the ICF Laws apply.
  8. Any changes to the format should be suggested in writing to ECC BOM and/or discussed at next ECC meeting.

SINGLES AND DOUBLE EVENT

  1. The Singles and Doubles events will be run with the Swiss system on the basis of one game of eight boards or 25 points with a time limit of no less than 45 minutes.

ii)  The host federation may decide whether to use the traditional system of player 1 plays player 2 or the system whereby players are divided into groups with the same points.

iii)  The host federation may decide whether the first round should be random or by seeding.

In both these cases the host federation must clearly declare their choice to Referee and participants before the start of the tournament.

  1. The host federation may not decide on the number of rounds to be played but must stick to the following mathematical table:
    • With 20 to 29 players no less than 6 rounds will give an accurate ranking of players according to their skill.
    • Between 30 to 59 players 7 rounds minimum should be played.
    • From 60 to 100 players 8 rounds minimum should be played.
  1. The Tournament Secretary together with the Chief referee must decide and make known before the start of the games the exact format of the final and whether there will be a final for 3rd and 4th place also. The organizers should decide whether the final should be best of 3 games, one game without time limit etc on the basis of available time.

TEAM EVENT

  1. Until further notice the Team is made up of four players who play Singles.
  2. The names of the participants in the Team event should be given to the organizers before the opening ceremony of the Eurocup or at the time of registration. Changes can be made before the event starts if absolutely necessary with prior agreement of the Referee and TS.
  3. The formation of the individual team is up to the discretion of each federation and the order of players one to four must be given prior to the commencement of the Team Event. Once the order has been set it cannot be changed during the course of the games.
  4. The format of the Team Event which has given best results so far is to give 2 points for each victory, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. All points are then summed up at the end of all matches. For those with equal points the score difference will determine the winner.
  5. There will be no time limit for Team Event games as long as the number of teams is inferior to seven.
  6. A draw will decide which team plays against which first. If one team has to sit out the host team may decide to sit out the last game for organizational reasons.
  7. Results of individual matches and general scores must be written up where they can be seen by everybody before starting the next round.
